§1What the guide says
| Topic | Rule |
|---|---|
| Footprint and entry | 40" × 48", four-way access, solid wood |
| Grade | GMA standard Grade A |
| Material not allowed | Weak materials such as cardboard or particle board |
| Pooled pallets | Don't ship on PECO or CHEP pallets (the guide says they can't be moved with a standard pallet jack) |
| Weight | Under 2,100 lb per pallet |
| Height | Under 72" including the pallet; 108" for double-stacked pallets |
| Oversized units | Another size only if a single unit can't fit and the carrier accepts it |
| Wrap | Don't cover entry holes for pallet jacks or forklifts |
§2Turning it into a purchase spec
Ask your supplier for a 48×40 wood pallet with four-way access that meets your written grade A definition. Two points need care. First, "four-way access" with a standard pallet jack is more reliably met by a block pallet than by a notched stringer pallet, whose notches take forks but not jack wheels. Second, grade A has no single industry definition, so spell out what you'll accept.
Because WFS asks sellers not to use PECO or CHEP pallets, a pooled-pallet program won't cover these lanes; you'll need white-wood pallets for WFS even if you pool elsewhere.
§3Before each shipment
Check the guide's current version; this page records the version we read. Walmart's Preferred Carrier pages carry their own limits for that program. Note the guide applies to WFS inbound freight, not to Walmart's supplier (wholesale) program, which has its own documents.
